Nikon Mystery DSLR - Is Digital Photography Review aka DPReview Currently Testing An As Yet Unannounced Nikon DSLR?

Today I received the 434th Digital Photography Review newsletter in my email inbox. It displayed a photograph of a blacked out Nikon DSLR with a large question mark superimposed on it and the text of the newsletter claimed that the good people at Digital Photography Review were "putting the finishing touches to two big camera reviews that we're hoping to bring you in the next week." It went on to say, "we're going to bring you reviews of two of the most exciting DSLRs on the market."

I would have thought that the Pentax K5 and the Nikon D7000 could be considered to be "two of the most exciting DSLRs on the market" but Digital Photography Review have already published their full-scale review of the Nikon D7000. . . and the blacked out "mystery camera", while having obvious Nikon styling characteristics, is NOT a Nikon D7000 or, to the best of my knowledge, any Nikon DSLR that is currently on the market.

For various reasons I will not post the image to the blog at this time but many DPreview subscribers must have recieved the same intriguing image in their email inboxes earlier today. I can however provide a direct link to its image location on the web. I will probably add detail to this blog post as more news comes to light. I am thinking that the image of the Nikon mystery DSLR, while possibly just a Photoshop job, *may* be an image of a compact FX format Nikon DSLR to replace the Nikon D700, possibly a "Nikon D800".
